Position Title: 29er Coaching and Development Manager

Role Overview
The International 29er Class is one of the world’s fastest-growing youth performance sailing classes. With a strong global presence and a proven pathway into Olympic sailing, the Class is seeking a 29er Coaching and Development Manager to support the expansion of the 29er Class internationally—particularly within Asia.
The CDM will be responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering training programs, building sustainable coaching networks, and supporting emerging nations and sailing federations to establish and grow 29er fleets. The role is pivotal to ensuring the long-term health, inclusivity, and competitiveness of the 29er Class worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Events
- Support nominated events on site as Int 29er Class Coach including Youth Worlds, Asian Championships and Asian Games.
- Support Int 29er Class at specific EuroCup and Championship events to ensure consistency of regattas and lead communication.
Coach Clinics
- Work with the 29er Class Executive, MNA’s, NCA’s and clubs to create and coach at clinics for both sailors and coaches transitioning into 29er sailing and supporting established small fleets to grow skill levels and build momentum locally and regionally.
- Work closely with a group of known coaches - developing clinics and managing appointments of other coaches where necessary.
Class Growth & Support (Asia Focus)
- Establish connections and work closely with national sailing federations, clubs, and event organisers to support fleet establishment, coach education, and event delivery.
- Provide guidance to federations and clubs on creating sustainable pathways from youth sailing programs into the 29er.
- Identify opportunities for partnerships, clinics, and training camps to accelerate 29er growth in Asia.
- Support the organisation of Asian regional events (training regattas, clinics, championships) to strengthen participation and competitiveness.
Coach Development & Education
- Design and deliver 29er-specific coaching frameworks, training resources, and toolkits adaptable for all levels (from entry-level to high performance).
- Mentor and support emerging coaches, especially in regions where high-performance coaching resources are limited.
- Organise and run coaching clinics as required, workshops, and seminars—on-site or online—focused on skill progression, boat handling, and fleet racing.
- Establish a global database of trained 29er coaches and maintain regular communication with them.
Global Collaboration
- Liaise with World Sailing, Member National Authorities (MNAs), and regional bodies to align 29er coaching standards with international best practices.
- Collaborate with the International 29er Class Executive to develop long-term strategies for participation growth.
- Ensure inclusivity and diversity are embedded in all training and outreach programs.
Administration & Reporting
- Produce quartely development plans and progress reports for the International 29er Class Executive.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of coaching programs and fleet development initiatives.
- Manage budgets allocated for development activities efficiently.
- Provide content and updates for the Class website, newsletters, and social media to promote development initiatives.
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience as a sailing coach at youth/high-performance level.
- Strong knowledge of skiff sailing, ideally with direct experience in the 29er.
- Track record of designing and delivering coaching and development programs.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both in-person and online.
- Ability to work independently, across cultures, and build strong international relationships.
- Willingness to travel, particularly within Asia.
- Passion for youth sailing development, inclusivity, and building pathways for the next generation.
Desirable
- Coaching qualifications recognised by World Sailing or national federations.
- Experience working with sailing federations, MNAs, or international classes.
- Multilingual skills.
- Experience organising and running regattas or clinics.
- Knowledge of sports development, athlete pathways, and talent identification.
