EUROCUP #2 KOPER, SLOVENIA

EUROCUP REGATTA KOPER, SLOVENIA

The second event of the EuroCup 2023 Series took place in Koper from Thursday, 6th of April, until Sunday, 9th of April, organised by Jadro sailing club from Koper, Slovenia.
Bay of Koper hosted  84 crews, with 168 sailors from 11 countries competing at sea for four days. Germany, with 23 crews, had the largest representation, followed by Poland, with 12 crews and Hungary and Italy, with 11 crews.

Weather conditions allowed the racing committee to complete the foreseen program with 16 races. On the first three days, western winds prevailed with speeds up to 12 knots on the first day and up to 7 knots on the second and third day. On the last day, northeast wind, locally called "burja" (bora), picked up with speeds up to more than 20 knots.

Overall Champions Ewa Lewandowska and Julia Zmudzinska from Poland sailed an impressive regatta finishing 36 points ahead of their nearest rivals. "We are incredibly thrilled because we're aware that we did a great job, although before the regatta we didn't expect it to be so good. We definitely had great communication and teamwork, which resulted in proper sailing and awareness of the surroundings - the oponents and conditions - which resulted in even sailing at the top and catching up, because there were some mistakes as well. However, we wouldn't have achieved it without our coach and a fabulous teammates that weren't as lucky as us this time".

The Jadro Koper Sailing Club organised this sucessful regatta for the 29er class for the second consecutive year. Tireless organisation with favourable weather conditions created equal conditions for the competitors to express their abilities and to allow the best team to prevail.
