CARNON 29er EUROCUP | Event Recap

Carnon, France - April 16–20, 2025

The 29er Association is proud to reflect on the successful first edition of the Eurocup Carnon, hosted on the scenic southern coast of France. A total of 112 teams from 15 nations gathered for five days of top-tier competition and vibrant community engagement, setting a high standard for future editions.

Racing Summary

The event opened under dramatic skies, with Day 1 delayed due to the powerful inland Tramontane wind. Once conditions stabilized late in the afternoon, three tightly contested races unfolded across three fleets—Yellow, Blue, and Purple—requiring sailors to be highly reactive and tactically sharp.

Day 2 was a pivotal moment in the regatta. Under clear skies and 5–10 knot breezes, four races were completed in textbook Mediterranean conditions. This day allowed sailors to reset, perform, and find their rhythm as the regatta progressed. Onshore, the atmosphere was alive with interactive educational booths, animated crowds, and a sense of momentum building for the days ahead.

A major southeastern storm on Saturday forced the cancellation of all scheduled races and village activities. While disappointing, the decision underscored the event’s commitment to safety. It also created a sense of anticipation for what would become a dramatic finale.

On Sunday, April 20, the event concluded with an intense day of racing. With teams now divided into Gold, Silver, and Bronze fleets, and with winds in the 10–15 knot range, a final series of seven races tested endurance, decision-making, and boat handling at the highest level. It was a grand finale worthy of the event’s ambition.

The 11-race series tested the fleet across a range of conditions, rewarding consistency, resilience, and race-craft at every level.

Off the Water: Community, Learning, and Celebration

The event was structured as more than a regatta—it was a festival of sport and sustainability. The race village featured a robust program of educational, environmental, and wellness activities. Booths hosted by Ocean Protection France, Ailerons, and Psycoach provided insights into marine conservation, mental preparation, and shark awareness. Interactive experiences such as soap-making workshops, yoga sessions, and a children's Easter egg hunt brought the local community and sailing families together.

One of the standout highlights was the Funny Race, an exhibition regatta held in the outer harbor, designed for pure public enjoyment. With top teams representing their nations in a race focused on entertainment over outcome, the spectacle included tight turns, playful tactics, and roaring laughter from spectators lining the waterfront.
