2025 29er Porto World Championship: Day 4 Recap Light Winds, High Tension as Podium Race Heats Up

Porto, August 6, 2025 – Day four of the 29er World Championship delivered light winds but no shortage of drama as the race for the title intensified. With just one race completed per fleet—Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Emerald—conditions tested sailors' patience and precision, shaking up the standings as the regatta enters its final stages.

Challenging Conditions Across Race Courses

The day began with promise, as a gentle 10-knot southwest breeze filled in across the racecourses. Bronze and Emerald fleets in Race Area B (Gaia) were quick off the mark, completing their opening finals race smoothly. Over in Race Area A (Porto/Matosinhos), the Gold fleet faced a more chaotic start, with two general recalls before finally getting away clean.

As the day progressed, the wind began to fade and the Atlantic swell returned to make life difficult, especially with a strong current complicating tactics in Area B. Despite the race committees’ best efforts to launch a second race across all fleets, conditions deteriorated, and racing was ultimately abandoned during the final downwind leg. Racing was officially called off at 15:30.

Shifts at the Top of the Leaderboard

Even with only one race sailed, the leaderboard saw major movement. France’s Jocelyn Le Goff and Jules Vidor now lead the Gold fleet overall after a consistent showing, overtaking the Hungarian duo Soma Kis-Szölgyémi and András Juhász, who slipped to fifth after a tough result. Norway’s Nicklas Holt and Philip Forslund move into second, with Italy’s Giuseppe Montesano and Enrico Coslovich rounding out the top three.
