30 January to 4 February 2024
Entry Now Open
Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club today announced the release of the Notice of Race for the 2024 29er Asian Championship. Eligible skippers are invited to apply for entry to the second edition of this new continental championship on the International 29er race calendar.
Incorporated into Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2024 – Hong Kong’s premiere international dinghy and invited classes regatta, and co-organised by the Sailing Federation of Hong Kong, China, Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the International 29 Class, the event expects to attract a strong fleet of regional sailors to vie for the title.
As a World Sailing recognised one-design class, the 29er is the largest asymmetric class in the world; having global appeal as a double handed skiff with fractional spinnaker and trapeze. Youth sailors are drawn to its speed and handling, with the 29er class being raced in over 30 countries worldwide and extensively in 5 regions of Asia.
The 2024 29er Asian Championship continues to showcase Hong Kong as a racing destination of choice for the 29er Class, being the venue of the first 29er World Championship organised in Asia and the inaugural 2023 29er Asian Championship. With 4 countries represented in 2023, evolving Asian 29er nations India, Japan, Singapore and Thailand are all expected to attend, together with the more traditionally established fleets from Australia, Europe and the Middle East.
Regatta Chair - Peter Davies, is enthusiastic about the early interest in the build up to the event: “We are very excited to again host the 2024 29er Asian Championship in Hong Kong and build on Asia becoming a significant venue on the
29er world racing circuit. There has already been great interest from teams around the world and we can't wait to put on a great show here in Hong Kong. Our world class race management teams run first class racing out of our beautiful yacht club facilities in the heart of Hong Kong and we look forward to hosting the top 29er sailors from around the region and beyond.“
Entries for the 2024 29er Asian Championships, close on Friday 19 January 2024. The 2024 29er Asian Championships, Notice of Race is now online at: https://www.hongkongraceweek.com/online-notice-board
