Lake Garda delivers!
Great sailing to wrap up the last Eurocup 29er event of 2011. 55 teams representing 10 nations descended upon Lake Garda to compete for the last of the series. Carlos Robles and Florian Trittle who finished 3rd in the European Championship (top European boat) claimed the Italian EuroCup event and the overall 2011 EuroCup Series title for 2011. Second in Garda was Marti Llena and Garraf Orio Mahiques also of Spain followed by Eline Snerlebakken and Ander Klippenberg of Norway.
The overall EuroCup came down to: 1) Robles/Trittle ESP; 2) Sandra Giovanolia/Stephan Zurfluh SUI; 3) Jack Hawkins/Christopher Thomas GBR. All in all, 245 teams participated in the 2011 EuroCup over 7 events. Congratulations to all teams who participated in all the events. The 2012 schedule should be finalized and posted shortly.

EUROCUP #9- Istanbul - Cancelled |

Unfortunately due to customs delays, the last stop on the 29er EuroCup schedule will have to be cancelled. The Istanbul EuroCup scheduled for November 11-13 is cancelled, but plans for 2012 are still in the works. as the Turkish 29er Association was so energized after the Favor Skiff Cup that there is much interest in Turkey in skiffs. Keep your eyes on the 2012 schedule for more exciting events.

The Real Club Náutico de Santander hosted this years’ Spanish Cup from September 7th to 10th. A record of 27 boats participated from seven regions in Spain, which shows the positive development of the 29er class in Spain after only a few years of existence. 9 races were sailed in moderate wind conditions between 6 – 12 knots. With 9 out of 9 wins Carlos Robles and Florian Trittel (CN El Balís) of the “Team Movistar-Magic Marine” won the title ahead of Martí Llena with Oriol Mahiques (CN Garraf) and Patricia Coro with Cristina Rodes (CN El Balís). Nil Mas with Jordi Llena (CN Garraf) finished fourth, so that all four top teams came from the Barcelona region.

HAWKINS & THOMAS WIN EUROCUP #7 full results here
Overall EuroCup Standings have been updated in the Events section!
Eurocup #7 is in Lymington, Great Britain on 10-11 September. Registration is now open on the event website, and due to the favourable exchange rate, the entrance fee is only €45 online (closing date 7/9/11). This event is also part of the United Kingdom Harken Grand Prix series, so will attract all the top GBR sailors, with a guaranteed fleet size of 30 boats. Lymington is one of the main sailing centres in Great Britain and is only a 1 hour drive from Portsmouth & Pool ferry terminals, and only 40 minutes from both Bournemouth & Southampton airports. The currency exchange rate also makes ferry bookings, travel & accommodation very affordable in the United Kingdom this year.
Lymington Sailing Club looks forward to welcoming the European 29er fleet on 10 September and together with the UK 29er Class Association will be happy to help competitors with accommodation, charter and transport arrangements. We also look forward to seeing everyone at the Eurocup Meal in the club on the Saturday evening!
